The gorgeous promenade that characterizes Sanremo is one of the city’s most loved spots by all of its habitants. It is possible to recognize this boulevard from all the postcards and the pictures prorating Sanremo. In fact, the tricolour marble used to pave the walkway, the view giving on the neat and orderly organized private beaches on one side and the majestic palms lining up along the other side of the path are unique characteristics of this Promenade.
Besides its beauty, this boulevard is also very much loved for the convenient and enjoyable connection that it provides between the city centre and the seaside area. Already in 1874, Tsarina Maria Alexandrovna, spent a long summer in Sanremo and was enchanted by this elegant shoreline. Before leaving, she decided to contribute to the beauty of this spot by offering all the palms trees that are currently standing along the promenade. To honour this gesture, the Sanremo citizens decided to name this promenade after her name, hence “la Passeggiata Imperatrice”. The special mark that this city left in the heart of the Tsarina is the reason why now the town has become a popular destination for high-class Russians and other ex USSR countries. Mostly in winter, it is fascinating to hear Russian and western European languages as a background noise of the most prestigious restaurants and areas of the city.
