The beauty of Christmas in a small Italian Village

Just like in most of the Italian small towns, Christmas is one of the most awaited seasons also for Sanremo. Many of the holiday houses and apartments that are usually empty during the week throughout the year are busy again with families who seek a bit of relax during the holidays. The young students that attend university in the big cities go back to spend the holidays with their families and, all of a sudden, the town is alive again. The streets are brightened up by the decorations, the shops and the houses get their balconies and doors decorated with climbing Santas, garlands and Christmas trees.

Walking through the streets of the town you can hear Christmas songs playing through the windows of houses and cafes. The main street, Via Matteotti, is doubtlessly the busiest and most majestic during this period. Here the beautiful Christmas tree and lights create the magic atmosphere of this festivity. Families and groups of young friends take walks and enjoy the tasty Italian hot chocolates and Panettone, typical snacks of the season. However, also the old Sanremo and the smaller streets are beautifully decorated, and the Christmas markets make of this town one of the most enjoyable destinations where to spend a cosy Christmas in the company of the loved ones.
